WATER TOWER

FEATURED ON CHANEL 4 SERIES - 'RESTORATION MAN' PRESENTED BY GEORGE CLARKE.

A couple, having spent 30 years in a bungalow,  bought this redundant water tower after winning an intense bidding war at auction in 2012.

Originally pumping water from a deep well (103m) the water tower served the village of Kirkby Overblow before becoming redundant in the 1960’s. The brick tower is set in a ringed copse of beech trees and planning permission was already in place for accommodation set over 5 floors.

Lengthy legal and planning delays ensued with regard to rights over access and certain local residents of a nearby housing estate (built in the 70’s) lobbied for the structure and copse to be removed so that they may have benefitted from the far reaching views the now converted and extended tower enjoys! The contemporary metal clad, glazed and rendered extension complements the brick structure and provides the benefit of garage, utility, studio and bedroom suite with linking staircase and hallway to the ground and first floor.

The project clearly illustrates that with a little dedication and not being phased by challenge or bureaucracy, new life can be given to industrial structures by those who favour the unusual!
