HAZELBRAE

An existing timber framed barn building sits within the curtilage of a large Victorian villa style property located within designated Green Belt.

The building is currently used to stable horses belonging to the owner with access to a menage in close proximity. Previous owners utilised the building for storage of the personal helicopter.

The owners of Hazelbrae have progressed through the staged planning process subsequently receiving planning permission to convert the existing building to a dwelling with extended footprint, subsequently demolition and then rebuild of a new dwelling building in a new maximised architectural form. The principle of new build thus far has been established, as too, has any perceived loss of openness of the Green Belt.

A new barn typology is being further explored which seeks to allow internal flexibility with insulated timber frame and operational louvres to control daylight levels. External materials selected are typical of those used on agricultural buildings within close proximity to the development site - zinc and timber cladding.
