The property, located on Hilton Head Island in South Carolina, belongs to long term friends who purchased the single storey timber framed property and relocated from the North East to the South of the USA.
Hilton Head Island is divided into a serious of ‘plantation’ estates and each has a distinctive architectural style and thus is dependent on The Architectural Review Board who review exterior renovations and new construction for architectural appropriateness. Each board has strict guidelines which were established to ensure development would proceed in an orderly well planned manner and in harmony with the natural environment. The guidelines protect the community from unattractive and irresponsible construction and thus enhancing the overall beauty and cohesiveness of the development.
Local Building Control has strict regulations with regard to building and hurricane related protection methods. The United States still worked in feet and inches which was in itself challenging.
The built project harmonises with the original mother building and benefits from proximity of the pine forest to the rear and interaction with local birdlife - red cardinals, hummingbirds and woodpeckers.
Generally the architectural presentation both internally and externally presents a very pleasant home.
